Review: iC3 Basketball Shot Trainer

Your husband loves to play basketball…

He needs to work on his shot, in fact, he probably would be outside more often, but is tired of chasing the ball around, having it roll down the driveway or bounce into the neighbor’s yard every time he shoots. The iC3 Basketball Shot Trainer is the perfect solution as it catches all the made and missed shots, then passes it back to your husband so he can keep shooting and focus his time and energy on making baskets, not chasing the ball.

What does the iC3 Shot Trainer do?

Every time your husband shoots the basketball, he has to go retrieve the ball. If he makes the shot, maybe it’s not a big deal. But what if he misses? What if the ball hits the rim and bounces the ball toward a window or over the wall into the neighbor’s yard? Wouldn’t your mind be more at ease if make or miss, a net was there to catch the ball and return it to you exactly where you wanted it each time?

The iC3 Shot Trainer is designed to do just that, make or miss, it will catch the basketball in its giant arms using a net and funnel the ball down and return the ball to the shooter each time. Instead of chasing the ball around or worse yet, causing damage to your property, your husband can focus in and get a great workout.

In a 30-minute time span, because your husband does not have to chase down the ball each time he shoots, can take 100+ shots, focusing on form and perfecting his shooting mechanics, versus losing time running around after the ball that probably just landed in your garden.

Ease of setting up and taking down…

The iC3 requires some assembly, when we ordered and set ours up, it did not take too long at all. Once assembled, you can see how it easily fits over existing basketball hoops. Although not super heavy, I recommend you have a friend help you lift it and put it in place. Especially the first few times, you or your husband might be able to do it on your own later. If this is going to be set up as a surprise, I would call a friend, they can help you out and save you time.

Once the iC3 Shot Trainer is up, it can stay up, there is no to have to take it down unless you experience strong winds in your area. I have left up ours all year, our basketball court adjusts in height, so I just lower it down and heavy wind days to prevent tipping over.

When training is over or if your husband wants to invite a few friends to play a game or two, the iC3 shot trainer can easily be removed, it folds up compact and can be set aside or put away in a shed. Although, what usually ends up happening is your husband and his friends will end up training using the iC3. I have found that up to three people can train comfortably, rotating through and taking shots.

Consider also getting…

Two items come to mind when purchasing the iC3 Shot Trainer that does a great job of complementing and enhancing the training. The first is the optional shot counter and wheels package that I thought should be included but for some reason are made optional.

The wheels make it easier for you to roll away your iC3 Shot Trainer when putting it in a shed or storage. Otherwise, you will have to lift it and carry it, this can become a bit cumbersome and lead to a few bumps and bruises.

The shot counter should be included but for some reason it is optional. To be clear, shots taken is the only thing counted, not makes or misses. Shots taken is still a great metric to keep track of, especially if you are simply working out and trying to hit a daily goal of shots taken.

Can the kids use the iC3 Shot Trainer too?

Absolutely, it will improve there shooting and also help reduce the amount of time they chase the ball around, especially important if you have a driveway or near a street. When kids are learning to shoot, accuracy is not always there right away. Repetitions help dial in accuracy and the iC3 Shot Trainer will help get those reps in.

You will see that kids can easily adjust the ball return swivel and create games to keep them focused and entertained while they train. More importantly, because the ball is returned to them each time, there is less concern about the ball or the kids running into the street or your flower beds.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have several questions when you consider investing in larger training equipment. Below are some common questions that are asked, if you do not see your question, feel free to post it in the comments below.

Can I remove the iC3 Shot Trainer?

Yes, the iC3 Shot Trainer is removable and folds up compact to easily set aside or place inside a shed.

Can more than one person use it at the same time?

Absolutely, two or three athletes can use it at the same time rotating through and taking turns. Any more than that would require a bit more organization.

Will it keep my basketball from bouncing all over the place?

Yes, the iC3 does a great job of getting most balls to funnel down with the net then passing the ball back to the shooter. Every once in awhile a ball will bounce over the net but typically hits the net, slowing the ball down giving the shooter time to recover the ball.

Is the basketball return adjustable?

Yes, the iC3 basketball return can rotate 180 degrees, even a bit more than that, enabling the shooter to get in the corners to practice tuff shots.

Does the iC3 Shot Trainer count my makes and misses?

The iC3 does offer an optional shot counter that counts how many shots you have taken, it does not keep track of how many makes or misses, just overall shots were taken.

Is the iC3 heavy to put up or take down and put away?

It is recommended that two people put up the iC3 Shot Trainer, mostly due to balancing a rather large object and for safety.

Do I have to take down the iC3 after each use?

The iC3 can be left up all year, caution should be taken if your area experiences strong winds.

Final Thoughts…

After years of use, the IC3 basketball shot trainer still holds up and is working perfectly. Of course, it gets weathered and eventually, as of this writing, three years in, the net looks like it is starting to fray a bit. After thousands upon thousands of shots, the IC3 has held up strong. Looking back now, I took to long to order the IC3, believing that shooting machine is what I needed. Shooting machines breakdown, are super expensive and require a lot of space. The IC3 has been super cost-effective, compact and durable, providing maximum value for the investment.
